72 Hours in Portland, Maine

One last hurrah before summer's ever untimely end. A weekend in Portland, Maine, visiting my stepsister, brother-in-law, and their Maine coon cat Judy Johnson. The themes are, unsurprisingly, these: lobster, ice cream, fruity beers, Season 5 of the Wire, body surfing, and a donut experience signficantly less pleasant in practice than in theory.

It all starts with this fella.

The best ice cream is Maple Organics (via Whole Foods). Friday morning breakfast: Toasted Coconut & Peanut Butter.

Saturday morning breakfast was just short of what I had hoped it would be. I ordered a chocolate frosted. It had a hair on it. I've had worse coffee though. In hindsight, $5.50 (plus tip) not well-spent.

The obligatory trip to the lobster shack. I've learned that I'm a purist when it comes to the lobster roll. Should have no mayo. This one had quite a dollop I'm afraid.

So long, Marianne.

Nelson, English Cocker Spaniel.

At the market, buying lobster for dinner. This man clearly loves his job.

Pret a manger.
